Family owned Quality Tradition    Landry Boat Works is a family owned boat yard which has a long tradition of quality boat building and repair.  The Landry family first came to the U S from Europe in the 1700s and settled across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama.  The French influenced the area as they settled in to ply their hard working artistic heritage.  Landry Boat Works has been worked by members of the family for over 65 years when Roy Landry first bought it.  Two more brothers Joe Landry and Shine Landry joined Roy and started to upgrade the facilities which would build the strongest shrimper on the Gulf of Mexico.

Soon the yard would specialize during the 1950ís thru the 1990ís in building wooden shrimp boats. The Apache fleet, as it was known enjoyed a solid reputation and had many advantages over the competitors.  The vessels were faster and fuel stingy.  Operational costs because of the graceful bottom design became as famous as the owners and captains boasted of their advantages.  The heavy construction allowed larger spreaders and bigger nets.   These boats prowled the Gulf of Mexico and East Coast of the United States to bring in ever larger catches.  As the reputation spread buyers continually put new demands on the yard to stretch the bottom.  They built over 100 of these graceful shrimping machines.  A major addition was the installation of larger generators and freezing capacity.  This allowed the vessel to go further, stay out longer, and safely store catch.  As the years passed the increased strength of these vessels winches, larger nets, bigger hauls, and lower maintenance made for larger profits.  These factors made the Landry boats a sought after economical shrimper.  Because of this quality and innovative bottom the yard prospered.

Today the yard has dedicated itself to providing service to the remaining vessels they built over the last 65 years in addition to those wood boats of other builders.  In 1994 the second generation of Landryísí took over the yard as brothers Darrel and Rena who had worked at the yard for years bought it from their Father and Uncle Shine as they would retire.  Strong hands and hard work would prove their dedication to the values that had been successful for their father and uncle.   The yard added building yachts and passenger boats to the product mix.  In 2011 after a decade of success Darrel retired and sold his interest to his brother Rena who continues to carry on the family tradition of quality and value.
